Open Source Software (OSS) plays a key role in the OpenHosting's business. This company was founded by long time OSS contributors and advocates, our service is based entirely on OSS, and we are committed to expanding the OSS universe by releasing all of our tools as OSS. We do this for many reasons.

Any hosting operation involves a lot of software, most of it proprietary and custom written. Most providers develop it internally, while some choose to purchase commercial packages. Either way, most providers do not like to reveal what is running behind the scenes, some for reasons of IP protection, others for added obscurity to gain a little security, and some for other reasons yet unknown.

We would like to be different. Although writing and maintaining software is a big part of our business, we do not believe that our competitive advantage would be obtained by keeping it secret. On the contrary, it is obvious to us that opening up our software will have numerous advantages - peer review, trust of our customers, name recognition and personal gratification to name a few.
