Monthly Utility Rate Calculator
The interactive table below will help you estimate your costs using our utility rates. Select the amount of resources on the left and watch the table being populated with the cost at each discount level. The highlighted "best price" is the price you would be charged.
Before you start plugging away the numbers, note a few things:
- Disk Space
- We only charge for the disk space actually used, not the alloted space. So if your existing provider is charging you for 3GB of space of which you're only occupying 1GB, under our pricing you would only pay for 1GB. Further, consider that if OpenVPS already comes with software packages you need (check the package list), then unless you overwrite them with your own version, it will not count against your space.
- CPU
- Because few clients know their CPU requirements in advance, the CPU selection has been broken down to a few simple options (low, medium, high and very high). These numbers were produced by analyzing our existing clients. Roughly, they can be described as follows: Very High - very CPU-intensive applications, e.g. audio streaming with real-time encoding; High - Java (Tomcat, JBoss), Zope/Plone, other dynamic content generated using a high-level/scripting language; Medium - Apache, static content, some CGI, sendmail; Low - ssh only.
- Memory
- Similarly to CPU, memory has been narrowed down to a simple selection. Service applications written in high-level or VM-based languages like Java, Python or Ruby tend use more memory, while C programs are usually most efficient. The selection choices are based on the analysis of data from our existing client base.
